CSID is pleased to announce its twentieth annual conference to he held on April, 18, 2019 at Georgetown University, in Washington, D.C. on the broad topic of the importance of democracy and good governance in the Muslim-majority world and the West. This topic has defined our mission both in the US and the Middle East for the last twenty years. While we can claim to have made some progress in pursuing this mission single-mindedly in the last two decades, the dark forces of political authoritarianism continue to loom large on the global stage and there is continued worldwide attrition in human rights.
In celebration of this milestone anniversary, we are inviting paper proposals from prospective participants on the following four themes that are particularly relevant to our conference topic this year.
Proposals must establish their relevance to these 4 MAIN themes.
- Democracy and Good Governance in Islamic Thought: Past and Present
- Whither Egypt? Eight Years after the Arab Spring
- Jamal Khashoggi, Human Rights, and the US-Saudi Alliance
- Tunisia and the Enduring Hope of Democracy in the Arab World
Paper proposals (no more than 400 words) are due by March 10, 2019 and should be sent to: Gina Jannone, Gina.Jannone@du.edu
Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by March 20, 2019 and final papers must be submitted by April 10, 2019.
Conference registration fees will be waived for selected speakers, but they are responsible for covering their own travel and accommodation.
